What LOCUS Scales does

A web app for breeding and husbandry records, built around the ball python and extended to several other species, with a full module for feeder rodent colonies. It replaces paper and spreadsheets, without pretending to know what you haven't told it.

🐭 Feeder rodent colonies

• Mice, rats and ASF: breeding bins, Stock / Grow-out bins, litters, male:female ratios, losses and stock by stage.
• One bin = one lineage. Each breeding bin gets a code like 3.2b: 3 = the lineage, .2 = the generation, b = how many times the male was replaced in this generation.
• Replace only the male (same females): the letter moves up (3.1 → 3.1a). Replace the male AND the females: the generation moves up (3.1b → 3.2). You declare it — LOCUS never does it on its own.
• Footprint: a bin keeps the list of lineages its animals come from (« Related lineages »). Females from bin 1.1 moved to a new bin bring 1.1 with them.
• Inbreeding warning ⚠️: when the chosen male comes from a lineage (same number and same generation) already in the bin's footprint, LOCUS warns you — brother and sisters, for example. It's a warning, never a block.
• Import your colony spreadsheet (bins, litters, stock), with a preview before you confirm.
• Profitability per bin, budget and return on investment.
• Room for mistakes: logged a new generation instead of a new letter by accident? « Undo the last change » puts the bin back. Each change in the history can be edited or deleted, and the codes that follow are recalculated automatically.
• Freeze a batch: rodents move from a Stock bin to your frozen feeder stock, at the size that matches their stage.
• No snakes? If none of your animals eats rodents, the Rodents tab hides itself (you can show it again).

🩺 Gene-linked health notes (ball python)

• On an animal's record, the known issues tied to its genes: wobble in the Spider complex, Champagne and Woma, Super Black Pastel and Super Cinnamon (risk of kinking, small eyes, duckbill), female fertility in Desert, light sensitivity in albinos, and more.
• Each note shows its level of evidence: documented, reported by the community or uncertain. Nothing is presented as more certain than it is.
• Tracked over time per animal (0 to 3 scale) and per lineage: wobble question at hatching, 3-month reminder, « Lineage health » section.
• When you pair (Pairings, Season plan, Lock Mode), LOCUS reminds you of the issues you noted — wobble, small eyes, kinking or deformity, fertility, other — on the animal, its sire and dam, and its babies (e.g. « kinking: 2 of 6 noted babies »). These are your observations, not a score or a diagnosis.

🧬 Genetics

• Ball python pairing calculator — over 150 genes, Morphpedia as the main source, World of Ball Pythons as a complement.
• Allelic complexes (Spider, BEL, Yellow Belly…), super and combo names as used in the hobby, possible hets in %.
• Multi-generation family tree, inbreeding coefficient for reptiles.
• BCI boa: over 30 genes, allelic complexes (Sharp + BWC = Paradigm, Sharp + Prodigy = Paradise), Keltic, Smoke, Red and Sun Dragon, with the known health warnings.
• Blood python: T+ and T− albinos, Golden Eye (super Magpie), Matrix (super Ivory), Pollen (super Flower), Batik.
• Combo names shown in the calculator, on the record and in the listing title (e.g. Bumblebee for ball pythons, Moonglow for BCI).
• The price you type for a result is remembered for the next simulations, on all your devices (First Clutch and Unlimited tiers after the beta).

🏠 Day-to-day husbandry

• Racks and terrariums, animal placement, upkeep and cleaning.
• Tour Mode: batch actions (fed, refused, shed, quick batch weigh-in) across a whole collection, a rack, or everything on frozen-thawed or live. A refusal asks what happened to the prey (wasted, given to another reptile, back in the bin), frozen or live. For powder (Repashy, Pangea) and insects, the choices adapt.
• Meal prey changeable in one tap (size, species, ❄️ / 🐭), and usual prey changed in batch.
• History: each animal's record as a timeline, vertical or horizontal (meals, sheds, weigh-ins, health, breeding).
• Units of your choice: °C or °F, grams or ounces/pounds, cm or inches — the incubator and enclosures can keep their own units.
• Feeding reminders based on each animal's real history.
• Works offline, installs on the home screen.

🐣 Breeding

• Lock Mode: sessions, locks, pairing refusals, and how consistent each male and female is across seasons.
• Season plan, ovulation and clutch tracking, incubation, hatching with a check of the babies' genes and sexes.
• Egg-laying and live-bearing species.

📥 Import and export

• Excel, CSV, Word and MorphMarket import, with a preview before you confirm. All imports are free.
• Import from a paper notebook: your phone reads the text in the photo (« Scan Text » on iPhone, Google Lens on Android), LOCUS sorts it with a preview.
• Export everything to Excel: one sheet per topic (animals, log, lengths, health, pairings, clutches, expenses), with the animal's name and genetics on every row. The file can be imported back into LOCUS. PDF exports and full backup too.

💰 Sales

• Statuses (kept, for sale, reserved, sold), deposit and balance due, PDF invoices and receipts.
• Record transfer to the buyer: the baby's history and pedigree.
• ROI per couple, and paying back the parents: completed baby sales pay back the sire's and dam's purchase price, with the split you choose (« Paid back: $650 / $1,000 ») (Unlimited tier after the beta).

🔒 Privacy and commitments

• Data hosted in Canada, customer data encrypted server-side; public links never show purchase price, buyer or location.
